National Committees

The Association for Women in Communications has a number of dedicated volunteers who offer their time and talents in furthering the advancement of the organization. Committee members help organize the AWC National Conferences, and also support and promote the Clarion Awards competition and AWC membership.

Term
Length of service on committees is up to the volunteer; however one year is frequently the standard.

Guidelines

  • You must be a member in good standing.
  • You must commit to attending conference calls of your committee.
  • You must complete tasks/projects you volunteer to do for the committee. If your committee is involved with particular programs, show your support by participating in the programs.
  • Committee service is strictly on a volunteer basis, such as phone calls, with all incurred costs being your responsibility.

Committee Descriptions

  • National Marketing & Communications Committee – Use your PR, advertising and writing know-how at a national level and learn from other AWC pros! MarComm promotes the AWC brand and works to develop the AWC name and image. Publicizes activities such as AWC Chats, the Clarion Awards, the National Conference, and Professional Development programs. Meets monthly by video or conference call. Time commitment: 3-5 hours a month.
  • National Professional Development Committee – Creates and produces programs to help members achieve their diverse career goals. Current programming includes “Know to Grow” series and “Speed Mentoring” (both free to members). Committee typically meets monthly by conference call and committee work is done between meetings. Time commitment: 3-5 hours a month.
  • Membership Committee – AWC Membership Committee is comprised of current members who volunteer to personally engage current and potential members of AWC. They serve as a resource and sounding board to AWC’s membership on the development of strategy and campaigns. The committee typically meets monthly by conference call and committee work is done between meetings. Time commitment: 3-5 hours a month.
  • Social Media Task Force – This one-year task force is charged with the task of reviewing  AWC’s social media presence and developing a governance strategy regarding the use of official organizational social media.
  • Student Outreach Committee – The Student Outreach Committee of AWC is a group of volunteers whose primary objective is to increase student involvement and participation in various activities, discussions, and career opportunities promoted by chapters and the association at large.
